1/17- "Hatchet" Unit test in class; "Hatchet" projects in class. Synthesizing, analyzing, evaluating activities to extend higher level thinking skills... any parent who would like to stop in to see, please do so at any time! The projects are looking great. They will finish these in class, and some students have elected to work on it at home. Wow! This demonstrates great responsibility and pride in work!
** Once we finish "Hatchet" activities, we will begin a poetry unit using "Love That Dog", which is a book based on a child who witnessed their dog get hit by a racing car that sped off without remorse. While this is a sad portrayal of humanity at one of its worst, we will discuss our role in doing good deeds and the importance of leading a life with moral responsibility. Oddly enough, my husband witnessed a scenario exactly like this a few weeks ago while on the road trying to help a defenseless stray dog. Sometimes it is easy to be distraught and disappointed by the human race, but I think it is important to celebrate people who live their life honestly, faithfully and charitably. Even one person can make a big difference in someone or something's life.
