Math:
Monday, Sept.12- no homework due or assigned. Switching classes is canceled for 5th grade today due to a guest speaker. The guest is a TPD Officer discussing the importance of anti-bullying. We will resume our schedule on Tuesday. Math Test #2 and Addition Fact/Word Problem Test has been postponed until tomorrow.
Tuesday, Sept. 13- Math Test #2 and Addition Fact/Word Problem Test. No homework.
Wednesday, Sept. 14- HW: lesson 16
Thursday, Sept. 15- HW: lesson 17
Friday, Sept. 16- HW: lesson 18
Language Arts:
We will continue our literature study on "Holes" by reading chapters 24-43 and completing activities that will reinforce AZ State Standards for 5th grade. In Language Arts, we will be studying grammar/mechanics and will complete Spelling lessons 14-18 (lesson 15 is a test). The comprehension plot line for the animal reading contract is due on Friday, Sept. 16. We are also working on composing an essay together as a class for a personal narrative- imaginative story.
**Special Note** I would really like to thank the parent volunteers for helping out with miscellaneous administrative work in my classroom. It is so nice to work in such a supportive environment with high-achieving students. Thanks to those students who continue to put forth their best effort every day. You make my job easier...which is nice!

Word problem:
You needed 2 hours to get to a beach to meet your friend during summer vacation but you had to stop for snack on the way that set you back 18 minutes. You took 1 scooter ride during that time. You then took a walk, found a doughnut stand and purchased 2 doughnuts for $3.09. You remembered that you needed to meet your friend at the beach in 13 minutes. How many minutes would you be late in meeting your friend?
a) Do you have all of the information you need to solve the problem?
b) Is there information that is not needed in solving the problem? If not, what is it?
c) What is the answer, if there is one?
